Buying a washing machine in Southampton

What drum size do you need?

• 7kg — one or two people, or a couple of loads a week.
• 8kg — the most popular size, and right for most families of three or four.
• 9kg to 10kg — larger households, bulky bedding, or washing most days.

A bigger drum does not cost much more to run if you fill it — it is half-empty loads that waste water and electricity.

Spin speed and energy rating

Spin speed decides how wet the washing is when it comes out. 1200rpm is fine for everyday use; 1400rpm leaves clothes noticeably drier, which matters if you tumble dry or dry indoors through the winter. On energy, an A rated machine costs less to run than a B over its life, though on a well-filled machine the gap is smaller than most people expect.

Delivery, installation and your old machine

Delivery is free across Southampton and the surrounding SO and PO postcodes. Our own engineers install the machine, connect it, check it runs, and take the old one away for recycling.
