Buying a built-in oven in Southampton
Built-in ovens sit in a housing unit at worktop or eye level, paired with a separate hob. Check the aperture in your existing housing before you order.
Standard sizes and where they go
Nearly all built-in single ovens are 60cm wide and around 59–60cm tall, designed for a standard housing unit. Eye-level installation saves bending and makes it easier to see what you are cooking; under-counter keeps the wall free for cupboards. Either way the cut-out has to match, so measure the aperture rather than the old oven.
Fan, conventional and multifunction
A fan oven circulates heat so you can cook on several shelves at once and usually at a slightly lower temperature. Conventional heat rises through the cavity, which suits baking that wants a gentler base. Multifunction gives you both plus grilling and defrost settings from one dial.
Cleaning is the feature that earns its money
Pyrolytic cleaning is the difference between an hour with oven cleaner and wiping out a spoonful of ash. If you roast often it is the upgrade most people say they would buy again.
Repair or replace?
If what you have is only a few years old, a repair is often the cheaper answer. We repair all the major brands — see electric cooker and oven repairs in Southampton for common faults and costs, and we will tell you honestly when something is not worth fixing.
