Measure the gap, not the machine

A 60cm machine needs a fraction more than 60cm of clear gap, plus room behind for the hoses without kinking them. Check the worktop height too — most machines adjust on their feet, but a very low worktop can catch out a taller model.

Getting the most from the load

Load plates facing the centre, keep tall items to the sides so they do not block the spray arm, and leave space between glasses. Most complaints about a dishwasher not cleaning properly come down to a blocked spray arm or an overpacked basket rather than the machine.
